Nathan Has Torn Ligament
11:50 AM, 03/10

Update:In a very quiet tone Twins closer Joe Nathan sat and talked with reporters yesterday and told them of his diagnosis, a torn ulnar collateral ligament, in other words, a tear in his elbow. Nothing is official yet, but Nathan will meet with famed surgeon Dr James Andrews later this week to map out his strategy. Most likely the next step will be Tommy John surgery, putting an end to Nathans 2010 season before it even begins. The Twins will obviously be looking for a new closer this year, and on their own roster they can look to John Rauch, or perhaps Matt Guerrier.

Fantasy Impact: This is bad news for fantasy players, especially those who have already held their drafts and were the owners of Nathan. Until it's official you don't want to drop him, but you should be looking at other options. Rauch has been a closer before, with mixed results. Guerrier is probably the netter option of the two, but his role in the Twins bullpen is well defined and would then force manager Ron Gardenhire to make other adjustments and possibly put pitchers in roles where they would not fit well.
